Everything you need to install, use, and license Working Copy Pro. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact support.

Getting started

Install the plugin from your WordPress admin (Plugins → Add New) or upload the zip under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, then activate it. No configuration is required to use the free features. Open Working Copy Pro → Settings in the WordPress admin menu at any time to check your license status or start a free trial.

Creating a working copy

Open any published page, post, or custom post type and look for the Working Copy panel (a sidebar panel in the block editor, or a meta box in the classic editor). Click Create Working Copy to clone the page into a draft. The live page is untouched and stays published — your working copy is where you make changes.

Editing and syncing

Edit the working copy like any normal draft. Behind the scenes, Working Copy Pro records a sync baseline — the state of the live page at the moment the working copy was created — so it can tell the difference between a change you already reviewed and something new.

Resolving conflicts

If the live page changes while you're still editing your working copy, Working Copy Pro detects it automatically. Open the working copy and use the side-by-side resolver to go block by block: Use Mine, Use Theirs, or keep both when two people added different things. The resolver renders both versions with your real theme, and also handles featured image, excerpt, template, and SEO field conflicts in the Page Details sidebar.

Moved sections are shown as Relocated rather than flagged as edits, and cosmetic markup differences are ignored — only real content and link changes are flagged.

Publishing Pro

Once your working copy is ready — with any conflicts resolved — click Publish to replace the live page with your version in one step. A version of the previous live state is saved automatically, both as a Working Copy Pro version and as a native WordPress revision, so you can always step back.

Version history & revert Pro

Every merge and publish saves a checkpoint. Publication history shows who published what and when, with a one-click Restore to bring back any previous version of the page.

Role-based permissions Pro

Control which WordPress roles can create working copies, review/resolve conflicts, and publish to live, from Working Copy Pro → Settings. Permissions are enforced on the server for every action, on top of WordPress's own per-post edit_post capability checks — not just hidden in the UI.

Licensing & the free trial

Creating working copies, conflict detection, and the full comparison UI are free, with no license required. Publishing, version history, publication history, and role-based permissions are Pro. Every site gets one 14-day free trial of all Pro features — start it from Working Copy Pro → Settings, no credit card required. After a trial or license lapses, Pro features switch off automatically and the site falls back to the free feature set; nothing is deleted, and reactivating a valid license restores Pro immediately. See pricing or terms for details.

Uninstalling

Deactivating the plugin leaves your working copies and their data in place. Deleting it through Plugins → Installed Plugins removes all Working Copy Pro data, including working copies, version history, and settings — published pages themselves are never affected.
